How often should an office be cleaned? (UK guide for office managers)

The honest answer is: it depends on footfall. A 5-person studio uses a washroom maybe twenty times a day. A 60-desk open-plan office can hit two hundred. The cleaning frequency that keeps each one presentable is very different — and getting it wrong is either an expensive contract or a complaint waiting to happen.

Daily office cleaning

Daily cleans suit any office above 30–40 desks, any client-facing reception, and any office with shared kitchens or breakout spaces. A standard daily covers desks, kitchens, washrooms, breakouts, glass and waste — usually 1.5–3 hours per visit depending on square footage.

Three-times-weekly

For 10–30 desk offices without a client-facing reception, a Mon/Wed/Fri rota is usually enough — provided washrooms have a daily light-touch refresh. This is the most common office contract we mobilise in Watford and Hertfordshire.

Weekly

Small studios and back-office spaces under 10 desks can run on a weekly clean, with the team keeping the kitchen and washroom tidy in-between. Below that frequency, washrooms start to fail visual checks.

Periodic deep cleans

On top of the daily contract, most offices benefit from a quarterly deep clean — high level dust, vents, light fittings, kitchen reset and detail work. Add a carpet extraction once or twice a year and your office will pass any client visit.
